Scarlet Tea Room-Lovely venue, despite the price

My sister Lynn and I have been frequenting this charming venue in Pasadena for a few years. It's one of those special places-high tea, piano bar, lovely sandwiches, scones, etc. It's a winner.

For those of you who are into this sort of thing, The Scarlet Tea Room offers a 5-course tea ceremony, including a fresh homemade scone, with lemon curd, preserves and "Scarlet" cream, a selection of four tea sandwiches (the choices are quite spectacular), assorted petit desserts, Strawberries Romanoff, and a a pot of tea.

This is a very girlie luncheon, and it seems most who frequent this place are celebrating something, whether it be a birthday, engagement, bridal shower, etc. I always enjoy the piano player, who relishes the standards. I think he's been playing there for years.

Keep in mind, the cost for this tea isn't a bargain. It's $32, which, in my opinion, is a bit pricey. I think the sugar/starch ratio is very high with this sort of thing, and I found myself feeling rather shaky in the late afternoon, as there wasn't enough protein in my meal.

For those of you with any sort of blood sugar problems it might be wise to order off their regular luncheon menu, which includes a number of appetizers ($6.95-$14.95), along with a number of salads ($11.95-$18.95), sandwiches ($12.95-18.95) and entrees ($12.95-17.95). That will be my strategy the next time we go.

Still, it's a special place, service is divine, and you will feel transported for an afternoon of bliss.
