'Scan and Pan' Review: Carnage

Director(s)Roman Polanski (The Pianist, Rosemary's Baby)

Writer(s)Yasmina Reza (A demain)

Starring: Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds), Kate Winslet (Titanic), John C. Reilly (Magnolia), Jodie Foster (Contact)

DemographicPeople who saw the play, indie film lovers, those who don't care what happened in 1977

Synopsis: Two couples discuss an incident where their children got into a physical altercation. Eventually, they start to unravel like children themselves.

Pros: It is shot fairly well considering the space, there is some good dialogue, the acting is decent (Waltz is especially noteworthy), vomit

Cons: The script meanders when they are offered in for coffee the second time, Foster overdoes it a little, there could have been more tension, all the best parts are in the trailer

Bottom Line: If it were in the hands of actors who knew the source material (i.e. Clive Owen with Closer), we could have really had something.

Now Playing: At indie cinemas near you.
