Sami Natour is a longtime Knoxville restauranteur with a reputation for turning out consistently great food. His restaurant in Franklin Square in West Knoxville, Sami's Cafe serves breakfast and lunch only and often has a line out the door. Since he opened the door four and a half years ago, it has become a go to favorite for many.
My friend, M.A. had never been there, nor had I. So, we made plans to head that way at 10 a.m. because we had heard great things about his breakfast. We ran late and got there shortly before the 11 a.m. breakfast cut off. We looked over the menu and both of us decided we wanted lunch.
M.A. had heard that he had a really well-made Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich and I cannot pass up a Patty Melt. Both sandwiches are served with fries, and craving cabbage, I ordered a side of cole slaw.
The cole slaw was fresh tasting with no mayonnaise and not a strong vinegar taste. We both went bananas over our sandwiches. M.A.'s Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich looked beautiful with real meat not pressed, sliced meat. My Patty Melt had a high quality burger on swirled Rye bread.
On both sandwiches the onions were perfectly cook and the cheese was melted in a heavenly fashion. We couldn't stop expressing our joy over our sandwiches. The onions and the cheese, oh my. I am a Patty Melt fiend and I don't rave over ordinary.
I believe the french fries were restaurant quality frozen krinkle fries. I don't care. They were great. They were not greasy and they were well seasoned.
We walked up to pay and there was Sami himself. We told him how much we loved our meals and that this was our first time in his cafe. Sami couldn't not believe it. Where had we been and what had we been thinking.
I think this will become a regular stop for me. I will wait in line. There are so many things I want to try! I could go for breakfast and lunch.
Sami's serves breakfast and lunch Monday-Friday 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. On Saturdays, Sami's is open 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.
