Salem Beer Works is the place to stop this fall

At Salem Beer Works, each month features a destination’s culinary stars paired with micro-brews. For September it was New Orleans, with crawfish popcorn as a great appetizer with an amazing spicy, yet tolerable spice sauce for dipping.

Of course, the micro-brewed beers are what make Beer Works unique, and ordering the four 4-oz. samplers are the way to go. My favorite is the Nut Brown, which is dark, but smooth and tasty. Next, the 7 Gables Golden, perfect blend without a hops aftertaste that turns most beer novices off. And then there’s India Pale Ale, lighter, but with a bit more hops taste, yet delicious. My fourth taste, Double Pale, was not my favorite, but for beer connoisseurs, have at it. Also, the Salem Pale Ale was my companion’s favorite pick, so you may want to check that one out. And sample it outdoors, by all means, as there are heated lamps above the outside patio, which offers the perfect spot for people watching as the month nears October and costumed characters are everywhere.

Don’t particularly care for beer? No worries, as Salem Beer Works now offers a full liquor selection. Don’t want a full dinner? No worries, as you can order a lunch-sized portion for dinner with a selection of many menu items. The turkey tips with cornbread, rice and broccoli may be ordered as a lunch portion for dinner, and according to Stephen, our server, this is one of the most popular dishes next to the burgers, or sliders for those who want to share. Another great lunch portion for dinner is the shrimp stir-fry (or chicken). Although this is a lunch portion, it’s huge.

For October, enter Oktoberfest with a menu that includes pumpkin beer, German beers and foods, such as weiner schnitzel. Spicy food brings out the hops flavor in these Oktoberfest beers, according to the General Manager, Joe. And if you like what you taste, you can buy the beer to go, or you can find it in about 100 package stores around the greater Boston area. If you get your beer to go, you can come back with the empty bottle and get a fill-up for $10 any day but Sunday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

And for those who are ready for Christmas, you can look forward to December’s Hercules strong ale.
