Sack's Coffee House: a central study location

Sack’s Coffee House is located at 2701 College Avenue, and presents a very attractive café option for people living or working or studying nearby the south UC Berkeley campus, in between the campus area and the Elmwood neighborhood. Sack’s has great hours, open typically until 10PM, and offers great coffee and food for bookworms and coffee nuts alike.

The espresso is bold and flavorful, and pairs wonderfully with the chewy and delicious molasses cookie. Maybe for something a bit gentler than an espresso, try the house coffee, a dark roast from McLaughlin Coffee Roasters, with a little creamer and some nutmeg for a perfect solution to a cold, overcast day. Sack’s also has a huge selection of Mighty Leaf tea and speciality espresso drinks, not to mention their wide variety of food options. For a snack try their bagels, or for something a little more lunchtime check out the paninis (with great names like the Telegraph, the Take Five or the Led Zeppelin), the salads and the sandwiches.

The space is fantastic and put to good use – large windows account for two walls, so the lighting is great. Underneath the windows, and behind the benches that line those walls are big burlap sacks, stamped and comfy looking. The sacks are easily visible from the outside and give the café a distinct, welcoming character. The location is not too close to campus, although still primarily a student clientele, and with help from the copious seating, Sacks is rarely too crowded.

Sack’s gets a lot of love on their Yelp! page, which you can see here, along with the full menu at themenupage.com and their listing on Berkeley Patch.
