RunKeeper, by FitnessKeeper Inc, is designed to help you "track, measure and improve your fitness." Here are three reasons why this app rocks: it's free, it works with the GPS on your iPhone to track your run while you listen to your favorite playlist and it's social!
So here's how this thing works...
It's Free - Download the App from the App Store and give it a launch. You'll be prompted to register but it only takes a minute and you're ready to go! You can begin using RunKeeper right away to log your runs and track your progress. You'll also have access to the RunKeeper Website where all of your workouts will be recorded and you can change account settings and options for sharing your workouts with friends, family or others. You can also link up with other RunKeeper users and they can become "Street Teammates."

On the "Start Screen" you can select the settings for your activity. You can change the Input Type from GPS to Manual if you would like to enter your workout yourself. This is a nice feature if you want to log your treadmill workout or other activities that don't require a GPS. Next select your type of activity. There are a number of options to choose from including running, walking, cycling and swimming just to name a few. Now you're ready to choose the playlist that gets your pumped up for your activity of choice. Finally, there is an option to receive coaching at various points during the activity. Hit "Start Activity" and you're off and running (that was bad wasn't it!).
Once you've completed your activity you'll be able to see a summary of your workout! This gets stored on the website and can also be shared with your friends on Facebook and Twitter to name a few.
There are lots of options that you can configure between the app and the website. The website has some basic options that also track your weight and bodyfat percent. There is also an option to upgrade the free version to an "Elite" version that gives even more functionality.
