Rothmann's steakhouse has been an iconic presence in East Norwich for over 100 years. Founded by Charles and Franziska Rothmann, it was a gathering place for president's, celebrities, and tri-state guests because of Rothmann's fabulous food and ambiance. Today, management has continued to uphold the original family tradition of offering the very best food, service, and ambiance.
I had met Jon Sherry, the general manager of Rothmann's in my travels dining around long island and he graciously invited my wife to dine at the restaurant.
We arrived at Rothmann's on a cold weekday night with the anticipation of a superb dining experience. The spacious restaurant dining room we entered had a brightly lit exciting new bar area as well as table seating. A recent addition to the front dining room is a new sushi bar and window for those looking for an asian seafood treat.
Rothmann's menu features a large assortment of Prime Steaks, Chops and Lobsters and Lobster Tails. To accomodate his ever expanding guests choices, there is also a wide assortment of Asian appetizers, sushi/sashimi and special rolls and plates. The ability to choose East and West cuisine in the same venue, made our dining experience, even more enjoyable and exciting.
We sat in a large separate dining area adjacent to the bar area, with large comfortable wood tables and chairs , banquets, and an elegant wait staff.
We began our culinary journey with:
Two different but totally delicious soups.: Five Onion Soup Au Gratin and a Maine Lobster Bisque-The Bisque was rich with a wonderful lobster flavor, and the Onion soup was served in a large crock filled with onions and a deep brown broth with a thick covering of delectable golden cheese
Being an avid sushi/sashimi fan, we could not resist trying an assortment of rothmann's sushimi rolls. We sampled a beautifully presented and visually splendid:"Rainbow Roll- made with spicy tuna, cucumber inside, topped with tuna, salmon, avocado and tobiko- We also delighted in a "Big Daddy" roll- made with Shrimp tempura, avocado topped with mango, tobiko, and honey wasabi mayo. The contrast of sweet, and spicy proved irresistable!
We were now ready for our entrees of Steak and Fish, rothmann style. I tried a Grilled Scottish Salmon with roasted corn and avocado salsa. A True neptunian delight with a large portion of delicious pink salmon that literally melted onto my fork..absolutely fabulous..!. My wife went with a sizzling Boneless Ribeye 20 Ounce steak medium rare. Our side dishes were Baked Potato, Creamed spinach, and Sauteed mushroom. Each of our entrees offered the very best of steakhouse fare and Asian delights.
We took a brief intermezzo to digest, and enjoy Rothmann's urban chic ambiance. Although we thought we could not eat anymore, we managed to sample the exciting dessert menu.
We sampled a plate of assorted pastries and ice cream and loved every delicious spoonful!
Rothmann's proved that they are one of New York's premiere steak houses that now also offers extraordinary asian cuisine.
Compliments and Kudos to Jon Sherry, GM Chef Mark Serrantino, and Rothmann's highly professional wait staff.
