The Abuelo brand of fine rums from Panama have earned a great reputation, largely based on the respect and admiration received by this award-winning 7 year aged rum.
Aged in small white oak barrels near the equator for at least seven years, this unpretentious brand presents a spirit of surprising sophistication and complexity often found in more expensive blends.
The golden straw amber color of this medium bodied spirit delivers a nose of oak, with hints of bourbon, fresh cane, tanned leather and vanilla. The taste reveals smoky caramel, charred oak, clove, citrus and a touch of baking spices with semi-dry medium long finish.
This high-quality, very accessible rum sits firmly on the fence of a great sipper and a fine mixer, offering robust flavor and a depth of complexity to first-class cocktails. On the rocks, a touch of sweetness emerges as notes of vanilla and tobacco are accentuated.
Using local cane from the 800 hectare estate near the distillery in Pesé, Panama, Abuelo has been making rum since 1908, most recently under the direction of Master Distiller Ricardo Henriquez. The company prides itself in combining the best of traditional methods with modern and sophisticated techniques to produce refined rum products year after year.
