Overlooking the lazy Mississippi River and with a quiet air of sophistication, the River Inn at Harbor Town on Mud Island is the perfect place to stay when you visit Memphis, Tennessee. Just a few minutes from downtown across a connecting bridge, but far enough away from the wonderful craziness of Beale Street to be ideal, the River Inn not only has marvelously luxurious rooms, but they also include a full, hot, and quite delicious breakfast at Paulette’s Restaurant in your room rate.
Choose from one of the 28 beautiful guest rooms and suites, each one furnished with the most comfortable 4-poster beds imaginable, bedecked with Frette linens, puffy duvets and six luxurious pillows. Decorated with a beautiful Southern and European décor, 32” flat-screen televisions and including amenities like a glass of Champagne or wine on arrival, Port Wine and chocolate truffles at Turn-Down (which are delicious, by the way), luxury bathroom amenities, a daily national newspaper, free high-speed wireless Internet access, local phone calls, and use of the Fitness Room, you will not want for anything at the River Inn. One of the nicest places in the hotel is the library-style seating on each floor, furnished with comfortable chairs and a large selection of books, in case you forgot to bring your own.
The River Inn was the perfect place for our Girlfriends Getaway because it specializes in Ladies Travelers Amenities. The Harbor Town Spa and Wellness Center is close by and they also offer in-room massages. There’s even a local hair salon for a quick touch-up when you are traveling. The hot breakfast each morning at Paulette’s is wonderful, but you can also choose to grab lunch or dinner at Tug’s Casual Grill which has great hamburgers and delicious gumbo.
Harbor Town is actually a complete neighborhood with homes, a shopping district, private school and lovely town greens. The architecture is beautiful and classic and integrates all the buildings and the park areas. It’s filled with nature trails, ponds and walking trails which all connect and a marina with over 50 boat slips. Located on Mud Island and connected seamlessly with Memphis by a bridge, the Harbor Town area is enhanced by the River Inn at Harbor Town, where you can take a stroll along the river, or just relax on the patio and watch the activity on the river.
While you are at the River Inn at Harbor Town, make sure to visit Beale Street for some local music, take a tour with http://www.backbeattours.com/http://www.backbeattours.com/ and visit the historic Graceland, home of Elvis Presley. Just make sure you leave time to try some of the local specialty – barbecue!
