Nestled between a bakery and hallal food shop, Progressions salon keeps the glamour inside.
Entering the busy salon, you are surrounded by beauty products. A wall of product, nicely lit, to browse while you wait for your appointment. Work stations all in the open; spa treatments tucked into a quiet rear section.
Cindy Feldman has seen it grow like Topsy. Now in her 30th year as owner/manager, Feldman has a 57-member team. The salon has expanded from 2,000 square feet to 9,000, all in the same location.
Keeping records helps her track customer likes and demands: Many customers return 7.5 times per year. The typical bill is $145.
Attracting knowledgable customers from the upbeat suburban area, Progressions has built a solid reputation for service and innovation. Featuring the organic products of Eminence and Environ, the salon also offers Bio Elements for problem skin, and Ph Advantage with Dr. Barry Cohen.
A recent addition is the room for eye lash treatments; full extension can cost $300.
Spa treatments are in the hands of Theresa Hinton, whose team expanded uses of three rooms.
Community service is important to growing the business, says Cindy. Progressions has treated Wounded Warriors as well as patients from the National Institutes of Health Children's Center. Next spring, Progressions Beauty Week goes into schools.
How do new customers find this off-the-beaten track location? They love the prices and free parking, says Cindy. "And we always try to be intuitive - asking 'Tell Me' even if I don't ask."
