Rock 'n Roll Heaven Patrick Carney Style (Photos)

Jim Morrison, Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin and more...just a few of the epic Rock 'n Roll stars who are jamming in heavan and who were the subjects for the art exhibit "Rock 'n Roll Heaven" by Patrick Carney. Who better to capture their essence and spirit on canvans than someone who either met them or saw them live? That person is non other than the great Patrick Carney. If you missed the opening of "Rock 'n Roll Heaven" at Santos Fine Art Gallery, the following link is a video from the event http://youtu.be/P8hZdOH3FNk .

Walking into the door the first painting I saw was Jim Morrison. I am a die hard Doors fan. In fact it was a Jim sketch that made me fall in love with Patrick Carney's work. That said, this huge canvas loomed in the window of Santos Fine Art. I was drawn into the piece by its colors and Jim's expression. It seemed as if Patrick had captured a bit of Jim's soul. Once I got past my personal favorite piece I could focus on all the other works in the exhibit. Many greats were featured in Rock 'n Roll Heaven from Jimmy Hendrix to Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse. The room was filled with the faces of those that rocked us with a back drop of their songs playing from the sound system. It is a must see collection if you love art and music. Patrick combines the two giving history and passion to each piece.

To me what makes Patrick's work so amazing is that he knew his subjects. He either saw them perform live or met them in many cases, giving him a chance to portray each subject as they were in life. “I never paint anyone I have not seen or met.” That is just some of what Patrick told me about the exhibit. I love the way that he splices history about the people he is painting in with the art. He truly feeds those of us who have a hungry soul for music and art.

If you missed the opening to the exhibit you can view it until February 28th 2013 by appointment. Santos Fine Art Galleries, 978 N. Coast Highway, Encinitas, California 92024.
