Rock N Learn, educational apps that make learning fun

Getting kids engaged in learning a new skill is very important to their educational success. Finding the right tools that fit your children's needs is important to cultivating that desire to learn. One company that has worked in my family is Rock N Learn.

Rock N Learn offers a variety of iPhone, iTouch, iPad and Android educational apps. Also, there are several educational DVDs. Rock N Learn offers early learning, phonics, math, social sciences and language programs. This company has tons of tools to help your children achieve in the classroom.

Learn to Multiply the fun way with D.J. Doc Roc, the Hip Hop Hamster. Each app includes a music video from Rock 'N Learn's award winning Multiplication Rap DVD and a skip counting video. A randomized drill over the facts from x0 through x12 helps learners check their progress. Once you've learned all the facts, race the clock to see who can get the best time!"

What I like about these apps is that they keep the kids interested. They are upbeat and age appropriate . The learning is hidden in the fun. Plus, my kids do better memorizing math tables in a fun environment. Music is a great motivator.

Having these learning tools on my iPhone and iPad is perfect for our busy family. We can practice at swim practices or in the car. I don't have to bring along tons of paper or flash cards. It's easy for everyone.  Also, the skip counting video is great for younger children. Starting in kindergarten, kids learn how to count by twos, fives and tens. Your can show kids how multiplication is similar to skip counting. If you can skip count, you can multiply.

Plus, the app offers a quick drill. The quick drill simulates what our teachers do in school. Getting the kids to memorize the answers and being able to respond quickly is key to success. The repetition reinforces their learning and helps in school.

My 7 and 5 year old have used the multiplication apps. Both of the kids have mastered the twos and are working toward the other numbers. We have had many families be surprised that our children have learned this information so quickly. We have had great success with the multiplication series.

Rock N Learn offers phonics programs as well. The Rock N Learn Phonics apps for the iPad are called Phonics Easy Reader. These apps build on the Rock N Learn phonics program. Starting with easier phonic sounds and continuing to build, the phonics app help early readers to gain confidence with their reading abilities.

Each app has three stories that focus on the phonics theme. The user has the choice to have the story read to them or he can read the story himself. The story focuses on a few key words, or memory words, that are part of the phonics/sound lesson.

For the past week, my boys have been using two of the phonics apps, readers 3 and 4. I have been very pleased with them. These two apps are the first items that my five year old goes to on my iPad. One reason that I think he likes them is because the app offers some reading independence while learning. He can follow the story and learn new words in the process.

The repetition of using the acpps over and over are helping with my son's memorization of memory words (we call them wall words). I've noticed that he now can recognize more words when we are reading other books. The repetition is a great tool.

I am a huge fan of these phonics apps. Not only are they a convenient way of bringing reading materials on the go, but they provide tools that are helping the boys with their phonological awareness. These programs help build on their reading levels and reading independence. I look forward to more phonic apps.

If you are looking to support your children's educational endeavors, I highly recommend the Rock N Learn products. These products have been very successful in our house.
