This past weekend I was graciously invited to attend and cover the Rock Solid Pressure Industry Showcase for 2013, which was hosted at the State Theater, in St. Petersburg, FL. The event brings the opportunity to play in front of real industry music/movie professionals to some of the finest, hand-picked musicians from the local St. Pete area, Tampa, Orlando and other surrounding areas along this musical sand bar -- even one band from Australia (Blunt Force Trauma) that just came off tour in Japan to perform in front of us all, and it was grand to say the least.
This grand day of performing your brand of sound and live act presentation could be compared to winning the golden ticket with your pal, Mr. Wonka to many, as some bands did get signed by industry pros even one day following the showcase. Congratulations to those reaping the true benefit of this opportunity -- but warmest thanks to all bands participating and sweating it out, rocking this crowd for twelve solid hours and some of the quickest change overs this fan has ever seen! So fast that interviews and images had to be sacrificed and apologies to any that were missed, there were 20 bands total and only five missed...not bad! The cooperation and welcome are appreciated greatly.
J-Rock Staffieri is the gentelman responsible for the idea behind this showcase and works with the ever cheerful Patty Baccielo and other local entities to bring this event to life for one fabulous full day of live rock that only progressively gets harder, as the day rolls along into late evening. A hand reached out to selected bands local, regional and global this year; an invitation to say simply your talent is enjoyed please come perform in front of professionals that will aid in shaping your craft to possibly gain more industry exposure. This event is an appreciation and celebration for these selected musicians, as well as the gift of opportunity from some very special and knowledgeable individuals that love the regional music scene. Special thanks to everyone, JTM Pro Sound was on hand and some great individual vendors and artists. The welcome was one of the best yet, nice being around a gang from the northeast transplanted here...and the pizza, almost like home!
A live rock showcase, with 20 bands and more than twelve hours of entertainment, as industry professionals compliment but still critique in order to teach possibly. All for a $12 ticket and an original rock show that will blow your socks to the moon! This fan required ear plugs for the first time in a lifetime of live music and amps at my head, I hold a camera...but that is my favorite part, also! It was GOOD! As mentioned earlier, the music and performances progress as the day does to only the badest and loudest, smack you in the face, hard metal you can get regionally.
It is crucial to state that on more than one interview, multiple bands have not been together even one full year within current line ups; including one guitarist only joining his stage mates one week prior to this show and it all came together like the perfect rock/metal storm for all of these talents, on one stage and within one showcase.
This day brought individual and full band interviews, at maybe five to seven minutes tops with five minute change overs, sound checks and four song sets. We kept the day moving well, so thank you to everyone! This piece will play with some images set to music and then this moves into performance replay and interviews from the day at the State Theater, in St. Petersburg, with some great people spinning stellar original music, hope you enjoy this event as much as I did!
Please check the information below, more links to bookmark information about this event and others at the Sate Theater, J-Rock's radio show and links to some of the best regional music this fan has been exposed to in a decade, hands down! We are listening to the music I was gifted to weave in the interview feature pieces to follow.
