On Saturday March 9, 2013 rock legends YES played at the Silver Legacy Resort and Casino. This was probably the best show so far this year in Reno. The Grande Exposition Hall was nearly sold out as only a very few seats were empty. The sound and lighting was perfect, probably the best this examiner has seen at a Legacy show.
Yes are an English rock band who achieved success with their progressive, art and symphonic style of music. They are distinguished by their use of mystical and cosmic lyrics, live stage sets and lengthy compositions, often with complex instrumental and vocal arrangements.
The band's current line-up consists of Jon Davison-(vocals), Steve Howe-(guitar), Chris Squire-(bass), Geoff Downes-(keyboard) and Alan White-(drums).
The set lasted over 90 minutes and went like this, (from the set list on stage)
"Close To The Edge", "And You & I", "Siberian Khatru", "Going For The One", "Turn Of The Century", "Parallels", "Wonderous Stories", "Awaken" and one encore song, "Roundabout".
Founding member Chris Squire told the audience at the beginning of the show, "This is the first time in history that we are going to play "Close To The Edge" in it's entirety in Reno", the crowd went wild.
Guitarist Steve Howe was in top form and vocalist Jon Davison was just about pitch-perfect, he is a perfect fit for the band. Everyone in the band was awesome. A great show indeed.
If these guys ever come back this way, this examiner highly recommends going to see them.
A great time was had by all.
The Grande Exposition Hall inside the Silver Legacy Resort and Casino is one of the best venues in the Reno/Sparks area, there really is not a bad seat in the house. Visit their web-site to see who's playing next at, (http://www.silverlegacyreno.com/entertainment/)
