Ben Barber (Kevin Hart), a high school security guard, wants to marry Angela Payton (Tika Sumpter), but he has one problem, her brother James Payton (Ice Cube), a highly decorated detective with the Atlanta police force, doesn’t like him. Ben plans to one day join the police force. When he receives an acceptance letter to the police academy he finally gets the nerve to ask James for his blessing. James is not thrilled, and refuses to give him his approval. Angela tells Ben he must find a way to impress James. He gets his chance when James offers to bring him on a ride along.
James is currently on an intense case in search of a crime kingpin, Omar (Laurence Fishburne), that no one has ever seen. The case is so intense that Lt. Brooks (Bruce McGill) wants him to stay away from it. With help from his partners Santiago (John Leguizamo) and Miggs (Bryan Callen), they get closer to finally identifying Omar. Now with Ben on the ride along things will get extremely deep for James and his team.
Director Tim Story does an excellent job of putting this slapstick comedy together. Especially when deciding to have Kevin Hart and Ice Cube play the key roles to this fantastic story. He assembled a winner with these two hysterical actors that carry the story along. With the well placed action scenes, his does a great job with these two comedians and they take it even further.
This hilarious film brings you on the inside of what it would be like to be on a ride along with a police detective. With the intense action scenes and its hysterical dialogue, this film will definitely entertain and make you laugh.
Final Grade: I give this an A, for its hilarious action scenes and funny side kick humor.
