With the currently running hit Nickelodeon series and the all-new big budget live action feature re-booting the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles currently at the forefront what better time to take an inside look at their history with an all-new documentary. On August 12th, Paramount is bringing the perfect companion feature for the property with Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that takes fans back to the beginning and beyond like never before.
With documentaries you have to have an interesting subject and with the legions of fans of pop culture power this property holds made the heroes in a half shell the perfect focus. While a lot of fans like to harken back to the original cartoon series as to what is canon for the series it goes further back than that. This film takes you back to the days before the original comic series to tell the story of how it all began. The film is broken up into basically the historical chapters of TMNT showcasing tons of old pictures and videos throughout the 30 year history of the property. Some of the most interesting comes within the section regarding the toy line and the ideals and designs of some that were never released. There are tons of interviews from various people that worked on TMNT in it’s various incarnations one of the most unexpected comes from the actors that some may or may not have known took on the costumes for the promotions team pushing the strange concert tour. Both Eastman and Laird are showcased in the film giving their various thoughts on every step of the journey complete with seeing some of the original artwork and watching them draw their iconic creations themselves making this one fans will no doubt rush out to add to their collections.
While this film was made for the hardcore fans of TMNT this is one of those documentaries that will actually interest just about anyone out there interested in pop culture. The film is well crafted, fun and entertaining that keeps things moving forward while giving you plenty of history on the heroes in the half shell and why they have lasted so long and will clearly not be going anywhere anytime soon.
