Today we’re looking at the ThingSling. The ThingSling is a secure grip for most any mobile device.

The ThingSling is made for mobile devices but it will actually attach to any flat clean surface using the included 3m adhesive strip. The thing sling uses an elastic strip to bungee your two to three fingers close to your phone. This means that even if your hand goes limp, your phone stays put. According to thingsling, the most common time you’ll drop your phone is while taking a picture. The thing sling allows you to take portrait photos without worrying about anything but the shot. It also adds some noticeable stability when shooting video.
It’s starting to seem like phone manufacturers are purposefully making phone backs smoother and less graspable. More dropped phones means more new phones purchased I guess, it just isn’t fair though. My old droid x had a rubberized metal coating on the entire phone; it was sleek, modern, and very graspable. My daily carry phone at the moment is the Galaxy Note 2 and you won’t find a phone that’s harder to grip. When a phone retails for 700 dollars, you can’t afford to leave it stock unfortunately. You can always go for the Flygrip, which I reviewed previously, but the price is a bit much for some. The thingsling doesn’t offer the integrated kickstand functionality that the flygrip does, but it’s also less than a third of the price. Taking this into consideration, a lot of people can live without a kickstand.
Thank you again to ThingSling for supplying their product for review.
Main advantage: affordable protection from dropping your mobile devices, very thin design slips in and out of pockets easily
Main concern: elastic band seems very secure, but it might break or become loose over time
Unique features: great price point, available in 5 different colors
How much: $8.95 for one ThingSling at thingsling.com
Alternatives: Flygrip
Is it worth buying: for the price alone you should buy one to try out. The flygrip still feels a little more secure to me, but the thingsling by no means feels loose, I’m just worried about longer term loose and if the elasticity will hold up with use.
