Review: Taco Bell's Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos

When Taco Bell originally released their Doritos Locos Tacos their fans were excited about combining two of their favorite junk foods into one. However, they were also disappointed because the mexican fast food chain had only released a Nacho Cheese version of their newest invention. Taco Bell listened to their customers and yesterday they released their Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos.

Being a fan of the original DLT, I had to get one of these the day they were released. I got off work and headed straight to the gym, knowing I would be consuming my calorie allowance in cheesey goodness shortly thereafter.

However, when I arrived at nearest Taco Bell it seemed as if the entire population of my town was there. The drive-thru literally wrapped around the building. I parked my car and headed on inside. There were dozens of people milling about, but no one in line. The cashier was in the back helping to make food, so I stood there a few minutes waiting. I finally ordered one of the newest taco creations and one chalupa. Note: That is two items. Total.

Then I stood there for 30 minutes waiting to get my food.

I might actually be underplaying the wait. It was awful. I didn't have anywhere to be so I just patiently stood there, but other people were not as calm about it. When my number was finally called, I anxiously opened my taco. There was no fancy "Cool Ranch" sleeve like I had seen in pictures. It also looked as though its contents were just chunked into the shell as fast as possible. So why did I have to wait over a half hour to receive something that no care was put into?

That being said, the new tacos are delicious. They are every bit as good as the Nacho Cheese variety, so depending on which chip is your favorite I would reccomend you get one of those (or one of each, obviously). The ranch flavor doesn't overpower the rest of the taco, and the chip doesn't seem too salty.

It was exciting to try this new Taco Bell treat. However, while the taco was pretty excellent, the wait made my experience poor. Next time I will try a different Taco Bell. And yes, there will be a next time that I consume these.

Go try one yourself, but please wait a few days so you do not have the wait that I did.
