I had a pair of SkullCandy Ink’d earbuds for as long as I can remember, and I loved them. With their crisp sound, small structure and beautiful pink and white look, I never thought I’d see the day that they would break. It started with one side, and just a few days later, they weren’t delivering any sound. I was devastated.

Packed in a vintage floral bag, SkullCandy Dime floral and burgundy ear buds are modern yet classical.

Now, as a loyal SkullCandy customer (I also have the Hesh 2 over-ear headphones in Rasta) I knew I’d have to purchase from them again. The only thing I didn’t like about my Hesh 2 headphones is that they didn’t come with a mic chord (nice way to make extra money, SkullCandy. Most/maybe all of your other Hesh 2 headphones come with a mic chord). Regardless, they play quality sound and they are super pretty, so I knew I wanted my next and newest pair of earbuds to be SkullCandy.

I had been looking at the Ink’d 2 earbuds for a while but I wasn’t sure what to choose. I had been looking even before my Ink’d pair broke, but I never actually made a purchase because I didn’t actually need a new pair. When I went onto the SkullCandy website, I knew I had to order a pair that day. I use my earbuds everywhere – at work, during traveling (and I’m always on a train to New York City), and basically anywhere else where I want to drown out the world for a little while. I was searching and searching until I came across their new women’s collection.

Here’s the scoop: the new collection launched in The United States on April 15. There are three different products for all women’s needs – Knockout, Bombshell and Dime. Knockout is an on-ear headphone and Bombshell and Dime are earbuds. Available in only three different colors, all three products are complimented with premium materialization. They all also cater to women and how they hear – which their research has proved to be different than a man’s hearing.

The three colors that the SkullCandy women’s collection contains are:
1. Floral: a coral and burgundy color scheme with vintage floral print and gold accents.
2. Geo: a sleek black and white color scheme with silver accents
3. Robin: a pastel blue and purple color scheme with gold and yellow accents

"The truth is there are real anatomical, acoustical, and behavioral differences in how male and female consumers experience our product," said Michelle Whitehead, Skullcandy's Director of Brand and Sports Marketing. "Our goal was to understand these differences well enough to design products, from the ground up, that would legitimately improve the audio experience for our female consumer. We are extremely proud of what we've accomplished."

After some deliberation as to whether I should get Bombshell or Dime earbuds, I decided to go with Dime (let’s face it, most products are a little pricey, so even though I wanted the Bombell earbuds more, dropping $50 into a pair of earbuds was the worse option.

I kind of regret not doing so. I was so excited to receive my Dime earbuds, and, don’t get me wrong, they’re pretty, but not what I expected. Firstly, the color is entirely different than what’s depicted on the website. Instead of the gorgeous rose-colored chords and earpieces and the plum gel ear pieces, the rose pink is more of a neon coral kind of color and the purple is more of a dark maroon. The mic is the same maroon color and it’s actually see-through. I’ve also never had a pair of SkullCandy buds with an Inline Mic1 remote, but I definitely recommend sticking to earbuds with a Mic3. The reason? The Mic1 remote has only one button and therefore fewer functions – adjusting the volume of the sound is no longer an option.

Now, with all of that being said, I’m not going to say that the Dime headphones are a bad investment; they’re not. They are designed with the ear piece off-axis and oval-shaped, so your not-so-perfectly-round ear canals will feel at ease when they are inserted. They came with two gel ear pieces in two different sizes that prevent the build-up of grime and germs. The fettucine-style chord prevents tangling and knotting, and the super cute vintage floral-print cinch bag provides excellent storage for the Dime buds. As for the sound: beautiful. Just the right amount of treble and bass. Clear, concise music. Just as all the other SkullCandy headphones are. And, let’s face it, that is the main reason for purchasing headphones and earbuds, right?

So, I’m going to give it four stars. I’m not a headphone expert, but I’m pretty obsessed with the look and feel of whatever I purchase. If I purchase something online, I expect to look the way it does in the pictures, and the fact that these were different than what I saw on the SkullCandy site was very disappointing. Either way, all of the new SkullCandy women's collection products offer style and quality. When these go, I’ll look forward to purchasing the Bombshell earbuds.
