Werner Herzog: Give us adequate images. We, we lack adequate images, our civilization doesn't have adequate images. And I think our civilization is doomed, is gonna die out like dinosaurs if it does not develop an adequate language or adequate images.
"Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe," has everything, philosophy, film images of Charlie Chaplin, and Herzog "eating" his shoe. Why is he eating his shoe you may ask? Well simply because of a bet and a push. If Errol Morris completed a film, then Herzog would eat his shoe. Well Morris did do that in fact, he directed the film "Gates of Heaven." So Les Blank directed this short film about Herzog doing his bet.
Throughout the film Herzog talks about film, society, and basically that everyone should do what they want in life and making films, who cares about money, just do it! It's kind of a humorous little short that can be watched on Hulu Plus at the moment. While it has its humor, it's also thought provoking. His thoughts on consumerism are kind of spot on and he kind of inspires the young filmmakers in the movie.
This is kind of the short film that is for the diehard fan or for the curious movie watcher. You'll gain something from it, a more inside look at Herzog's views and you can see him eat his shoe of course! Les Blank fans, will want to watch too. It's an interesting piece of film history.
So this movie is silly, interesting, and a must for the person who watched every film and well short film out there. For what it is, this movie deserves a four star. It's only like 20 minutes of your time to watch and it's not quite a waste. Just Herzog is happy for his friend and that's showcased and what also is showcased, is his views in the world of the 80s. Nice piece of film history!
Werner Herzog: Errol has set a good example. He's a landmark now. And I'm very proud of it. I'm very proud for him and I'm proud for me that I'm pushed him a little bit into, into this. And therefore to eat a shoe is a foolish signal but it was worthwhile. And once in a while I think we should be, we should be foolish enough to do things like that. More shoes, more boots, more garlic.
