Review of the Panasonic KX-TG6582T phone system with Link-to-Cell feature

The Panasonic KX-TG6582T Dect 6.0 Plus Link-to-Cell is a complete phone system for under $100, including base unit and two handsets.  The unique feature of this phone system is its ability to pair with up to two cell phones, enabling cell phone calls to be made or received from the home handsets.  This is an especially useful feature for those who use their cell phone as their main phone, but still want to be able to use a full-featured, multi-handset home phone system.

How link-to-cell works

Link-to-cell allows the user to pair up to two cell phones with this Panasonic phone system.  The cell phones can then be left charging, or in a spot that gets good cell reception.  When a cell phone call comes in, the Panasonic phones will sound a unique ring, and any of the handsets can be picked up and be used like a regular home phone.

When making calls from the Panasonic handsets, the caller can choose to make a call from the home phone, or from a paired cell phone.  If the user's cell phone plan includes long-distance calls, this allows long-distance calls to be made via the cell phone from the comfort of the home phone handsets.

Other features

  • Expandability - Up to six handsets can be connected to this system, using only one phone jack.
  • Intercom - Each handset can be called individually from any other handset, or all handsets can be paged at once from the base unit.
  • Naming - Each handset can be given an individual name, which is very useful when using the intercom feature to call a specific handset.
  • Talking Caller ID - The system can be programmed to speak the caller ID info after the initial ring.
  • Blacklist - Numbers can be added to a blacklist, meaning that those callers will always get a busy signal.
  • Scheduled Silent Time - The handsets can be scheduled individually to shut off during certain hours, and to turn back on automatically.
  • Eco Mode - When using a handset within a certain distance from its base unit, it will automatically switch to Eco Mode, extending battery life and using less energy.
  • Digital Answering System - Includes an easy-to-use answering system with an 18 minute recording capacity.
  • Flexible Mount - Mount the base units and handsets on a wall or place on a flat surface.
  • Speakerphone - The base unit and handsets each have a built-in speakerphone.
  • Phone Book Transfer - Automatically transfer up to 600 contacts from a paired cell phone to the Panasonic system.

Cons

  • When answering a cell phone call on the Panasonic system, it can take a few seconds for the call to connect.
  • Adding a phone number to the phonebook can only be initiated from the phonebook or the Caller ID list, not from the redial list or by entering a number.
  • Transfering contacts from a cell phone does not work with all cell phones.

Recommendation

This phone is an excellent choice for someone who likes to use cell phone minutes at home, but does not have good indoor cell reception, or for someone who wants to receive cell calls at home without carrying a cell phone from room to room.  The cell phone can be left near a window or somewhere else that receives good reception, while cell calls are taken on a Panasonic handset.  The intercom feature makes this phone ideal for large houses.  This phone system can be easily found for under $100, including the base unit and two handsets, making it very economical.

Please note: the reviewer received this phone system for free from Panasonic.
