Everyone had that friend in high school that was just completely unmotivated. Slacker, procrastinator, low-life, whatever you want to call him or her. However, they were funny and you loved having them around. Did you ever wonder what happened to them AFTER high school? Kevin Smith’s mid-90s comedy “Mallrats” is a very possible answer.
Brodie (Jason Lee) and TS (Jeremy London) are best friends. Hanging out at the mall is what they do, along with their equally apathetic friends, Jay & Silent Bob. When Brodie’s girlfriend, Rene (Shannen Doherty) decides that her still-living-at-home-and-refuses-to-introduce-her-to-his-mother slacker of a boyfriend is no longer a good fit, she leaves.
Similarly in distress, TS is about to lose his love, Brandi (Claire Forlani) when her wealthy father convinces her that she can do better. Both boys being dumped on the same day leads them to the mall for solace. After some choice encounters throughout the day, the boys discover that the mall is hosting a dating game, and Brandi is participating. When they decide to win back their respective significant others, all hell breaks loose.
This is a stupid and funny movie. It’s great for a night with friends, or even a date. With a special appearance from Stan Lee and Jay & Silent Bob being themselves, you won’t be able to keep from laughing.
You can find “Mallrats” at any of Tulsa’s local Blockbuster and Family Video stores.
