Review of Kama Indian Bistro

Are you an adventurous or a cautious diner? Do you always stick to the usual or do you branch out and try different things? Sure you could go for steak again, but what about Indian? If you’ve never tried it don’t be quick to assume you don’t like it. Heard it’s too spicy? Not all Mexican dishes are spicy are they? Open your mind and let your taste buds explore the flavor of this intriguing cuisine.

Located in La Grange, Kama Indian Bistro is a refreshing departure from the suburban restaurant scene. This modern yet exotic restaurant is well lit and offers a nice blend of Indian and European décor. Couple of appetizers are in store tonight with one traditional and one unique to Kama. Chicken lemon Tadka is an Indo-French fusion of sautéed chicken and a creamy lemon sauce. For something more traditional the minced lamb samosas are crisp on the outside and bursting with lamb goodness inside.

Main courses bring with an immediate sense of comfort. The chicken Makhani is a stew featuring a traditional North Indian sauce of roasted roma tomatoes and flavored with fenugreek and garam masala. The combination makes the sauce velvety smooth and very comforting. Lamb Roganjosh is another stew made from onion, yogurt, and cashew. The lamb is super tender and does not require a knife! Dishes are served family style and should most definitely be accompanied with traditional Nan bread. This thin unleavened bread is great on its own, but is best when used to soak up all the wonderful sauce that your meat swims in!

Unfortunately dessert was not offered to us tonight. That’s a shame since the first two courses were really quite good. Service was friendly albeit slightly rushed. Dinner for two without dessert will come out to about $40-50, which is quite good for food this comforting. So grab your friends, explore some new flavors, and give some Indian food a try. Rating *** (good/very good) out of *****.
