The game’s on but your wife wants to go out for a family dinner. You wanna find a place that has lots of TV’s but some decent food to munch on. It has to be kid/family friendly or you’ll be too distracted to even enjoy the game. What’s a guy to do? Jersey’s in Hoffman Estates is looking to solve this problem.
This place is pretty big and has a lot of TV’s. If your game isn’t on one of their screens, just ask and they will switch one monitor just for you! Now the food has to accommodate your kids, wife, and yourself or you will hear more complaining and be distracted from your programming. The menu is pretty big which includes pizza, wings, burgers, sandwiches, and even some BBQ.
Two appetizers as usual with the first being the chili con queso and the second being a warm pretzel trio. The chili con queso is a pretty typical chili and cheese dip served with tortilla chips. It definitely goes well with beer and it won my 4 year olds seal of approval (the dip not the beer). The pretzel trio has a salted, a cheese, and a pizza pretzel. After years of going to the ball park I prefer my salted pretzels to have large grains of salt, but this one was more of a fine dusting of powdered salt that was actually a little overpowering. The dips is were it’s at though! Warm marinara and jalapeño nacho cheese are great to dip into and make you feel like you are at the park.
Dinners are next and my daughter again gives high praise to the kids pepperoni pizza. In fact when our server inquired if she was done, my daughter politely said “I’m still working on it.” Keeping with the pizza theme my wife indulged in their Western pizza that has sweet barbeque sauce, red onion, and sausage. To be honest, I’m not a fan of barbeque sauce on pizza but my wife really enjoyed it and had some leftovers for lunch. To break away from the pizza I opted for the Bluegrass burger with bourbon marinated mushrooms and onions, bacon, and cheddar cheese. You can choose to make it a Kobe burger for an extra $3 for an extra burst of flavor. While not spectacular, this burger is pretty solid and has a sturdy bun to handle all that’s inside.
Desserts unfortunately do seem to fall a little short. The s’mores dish is served in a soup bowl and has chocolate syrup on the bottom, toasted mini marshmallow’s, a little crushed graham cracker, and fudge drizzled on top. This dessert is way too sweet! Maybe more graham cracker would help by adding more texture and making it taste even more like s’mores. The apple crisp is not a bad dessert, just a mislabeled one. If you like warm apple cobbler then you will enjoy this because that’s what it really is. Warm apples and soft dough topped with vanilla ice cream is tasty, it just doesn’t have any “crisp.”
Prices are reasonable with many items under $10 and nothing over $20. Overall Jersey’s offers good food, big menu, and an atmosphere good for families or buddies watching the game, and all for a good price. Rating *** (good) out of *****
