We’ve all heard of beer goggles, but have you ever heard of beer taste buds? With beer goggles you find people attractive that you normally wouldn’t. With beer taste buds you eat food you normally wouldn’t. After your beer goggles wear off you feel shame about that person you hooked up with. After your beer taste buds you feel a little gross and ashamed of the food you ate.
My recent trip to Harry’s of Arlington did not bring me during a night of drinking. Instead I came for lunch on my birthday with my family. We stepped in the door and POW! This place kinda smells. We sit down and the menu sounds pretty good so we are overlooking the odor. I ask our server to recommend a burger and she tells me she hasn’t tried any! She said she only eats the tater tots, uh ok. I order a bowl of chili and the “signature burger.” My wife orders fish tacos with tots and my father in law the cod dinner. My waitress who only eats tater tots doesn’t write the order down. After a half hour I ask for my chili and get a bowl of the sourest cup of beans I have ever had! What makes chili sour? Hot sauce maybe, but it wasn’t hot.
After another half hour we ask where our food is at. I get the burger that has bacon on the edge of overdone and burnt. My father in law gets the cod sandwich and not the dinner and my wife gets fries instead of the highly touted tater tots. After finally flagging down our server again we get things fixed. Problem is the burger was still dry with overcooked bacon and the fish tacos were kinda rubbery. The tater tots weren’t bad though.
Normally I order dessert but at this point I said forget it! Maybe after 4-5 beers the food here is alright, but if you’re sober the food and the smell should turn you away. My advice is going to Javier’s or Salsa 17 nearby for some food that tastes good sober or not. Rating * out of ****.
