Falafel Bar
69 Allen Street, Buffalo NY 14202
(716) 882-2680
Mediterranean cuisine served in a casual atmosphere deep in the heart of Allentown. Voted Best Middle Eastern Restaurant since 2005.
The Tonawanda Restaurant Examiner and companion stopped in one day for lunch and we were more than pleased with our experience. You order at the counter and pick up your food and take it to your table, which is okay. The restaurant is small and only has a few tables, but it's comfortable and casual, just the way we like it at lunch time.
You can find just about anything you want at Falafel Bar. What is a falafel? It's a seasoned chickpea fritter made with parsley, onion and in this case, potato. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, it's like a Mediterranean hush puppy.
You can get you falafel in a half dozen different combinations, but we highly recommend:
Falafel Combo ($8.99): hummus, falafel with tahini and a Greek salad with pita. The hummus is velvety and delicious and the pita is warm and soft. More than enough for two to share.
Falafel Wrap ($6.50): fried garbanzo bean fritters with tahini and a diced salad.
The companion chose the Falafel Teaser ($5.75): four fritters with tzatziki and tahini. We were glad they didn't make us choose between the tzatziki and the tahini, because both are amazingly perfect and wouldn't be the same without them both.
This Examiner choose the Lebaneh Wrap ($6.50): falafel, lebaneh, zatar, tomato and fried eggplant. Perfection, especially the combination of the falafel and fried eggplant.
This is a vegan and vegetarian haven in an area where meat is king. The world famous Anchor Bar is just a few blocks away on Main Street, with its world famous chicken wings. It's nice to know that at least one restaurant within shouting distance of the Buffalo Niagara Medical campus (consisting of Buffalo General Hospital, Roswell Park Cancer Institute and the soon-to-be completed Global Vascular Institute and Deaconess Nursing and Rehab Facility) serves up healthy options on its menu.
Our food is a fusion of Eastern Mediterranean (think Greek) and Middle Eastern culinary cultures. These cultures share a common culinary trait, they treat good ingredients simply. We always start with the best, the freshest ingredients to create the simple, robust dishes that showcase the quality of our food. Fresh and lively salads, homemade hummus, lemony yogurt, and grilled meats are staples on our menu. Seasonal specials include highlights such as zucchini fries, watermelon salad, and horseradish crusted halibut, a few of the revolving favorites. Our menu offers something for all tastes, adventurous or not so much. Join us for great food and warm hospitality, we look forward to seeing you!
There are host of other foods available, including soups, salads and wraps. Stop in and try it soon, you won't be disappointed.
