Review of 'Crusade' the inevitable Christ in fiction

Nancy Holder is the writer of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series and Debbie Viguie is the author of the Once Upon a Time series as well as the Kiss trilogy. So what do these authors and their book have to with Christian fiction?

Nothing exactly.

The Chance to Connect

Or maybe, perhaps everything. Debbie Viguie is a professed believer in Jesus Christ and her books do reflect that, however teaming up Holder for Crusade made them the perfect duo for this series as they each have fresh perspectives to offer the characters and the plot; the chance for the story of connecting with people, consulting a power higher than they, and the awesome power of sacrifice textures the hefty 470 page novel.

For example, Antonio, a vampire who loves Jenn, wanted to go to Seminary, but he was turned and yet he still worships and adores God. His power, his faith comes from the Holy Spirit he says. The humans around him have various beliefs and religions and some not at all, but one would quickly notice how often his bloodlust rises yet his principles stay intact only because of God. He is not ashamed.

The Christ in the Fiction

Briefly, Crusade is about a team of six teenagers sworn to kill vampires. There is your classic good versus evil and they rarely get along. And it is kind of funny how the vampire and the werewolf are the only ones who seem to have a soul in the story. Vampires have taken over the governments and have made it so certain religious figurines were cast out. Sound familiar? Today, anything in connection to God tends to be cast out and ruled unpopular, so that connection in Crusade makes the book even more pertinent to today's times.
