Life in the city can be chaotic and hectic. Sometimes a day spa just isn't enough. A change of scenery can be all one needs to reach serenity. Recently, I was able to experience this "mental and physical detox" at the Mansion House in Martha's Vineyard.

Open year-round, family owned Mansion House is like staying at a quaint bed and breakfast, but with the same amenities as a chain spa resort. It posses an extensive health club, full service spa, indoor pool, and daily workout classes. The Victorian-style hotel is just a 3 minute walk from the dock and nestled on Main Street next to cafes, restaurants, clothing boutiques and trinket shops.

The Room

The 48 room, eco-friendly Mansion House can easily be seen coming in on the ferry from Woods Hole. When I arrived at the hotel I was pretty impressed. It's very modern, but still holds old-fashion charm. My room, which was a corner room (404 on the 4th floor), was spacious, clean, and quiet. The rooms have all the basics: cable television, desk, comfortable bed, coffee machine with coffee and tea. It also had a few extras like a balcony with seating, a wet bar, refrigerator, 2 fluffy robes, and free wifi. The bathroom was equipped with amenities from the spa and included makeup wipes. No price gouging here, the room also included spring water, sparkling water, snacks and earbuds between $2-$6.

Just a few steps from my room was the door to the rooftop terrace, with astonishing views of Vineyard Haven. The Cupola, as it's called, hosts afternoon lemonade and morning yoga during the warmer months.

Good Eats

Every morning from 7-10 the Mansion House serves a nice complimentary 'grab and go' breakfast in the downstairs great room with banana bread, fruit, cheese, boiled eggs, coffee, juices, and tea.

For dinner the hotel has an Asian fusion restaurant just off from the lobby called Copper Wok. The menu has an array of Asian cuisine like pho, sushi, and fried rice. Service is fast, food was great and the decor was chic, but not pretentious.

Mansion House doesn't offer any spa-like meals or a juice bar, but there are plenty of food options in the area including a cafe just a few steps away and The Black Dog Tavern which is about a block and half from the hotel.

Work Your Body

The Health Club at Mansion House is one of the most practical workout facilities I've ever seen in a hotel and is complementary to guest. It includes a weight room, cardio machines, a lap pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, spinning room, yoga/dance studio, and full locker room. There's also tanning for an extra cost.

I enjoyed time in the sauna, hot tub and pool. There's daily classes like yoga, pool workout, and barre. There's even classes for seniors.

I took a vigorous, morning zumba class with Max P. It was my first ever zumba class and I truly enjoyed it. Max was upbeat, fun and kept the class interesting. I felt like I was out dancing with friends instead of exercising. A class with her is a must during your stay.

Relaxation Time

After my amazing workout, I spent the rest of my afternoon at the Spa at Mansion House. This full-service spa and salon for women and men, uses high-end beauty brands like Essie, Aveda, Carol's Daughter and Jane Iredale.

I indulged in a hot stone massage and a hot stone pedicure. Angeline gave me a relaxing and powerful massage. She seamlessly rubbed the knots in my back to nonexistence and gave my worn-out winter feet a serious transformation. My body went into full calm mode. Angeline was extremely attentive to my wants and needs.

The nail lacquer choices were great and included polishes by OPI, Essie and CND.

Beside massages, manicures, pedicures, facials and hair services, the Spa at Mansion House also provides couple massages, mud wraps, scrubs and they will accommodate wedding parties.

Spa Trip Conclusion

My overall visit to Mansion House was absolutely peaceful and lovely. Everyone from Leah at the front desk to the girl attending the breakfast were pleasant, friendly and helpful. Even the hotel's guest were exceptionally nice, which I adored and could definitely get used to.

I give it 5 stars for it's style, amenities, great staff, room size, rooftop views and overall appearance.

Mansion House is in a great location, close to the beach, and during the summer month's is only a boat ride away from Manhattan. It's perfect for a family getaway, a girl's spa weekend, or a romantic weekend with your guy. It's also a nice place to visit alone when you're in need of tranquility.
