REVIEW: If John Lennon was alive, film asks, would we just "Let Him Be"?

The possibility that John Lennon might be alive is the unusual premise behind "Let Him Be," a film by Peter McNamee with an outer limits premise that Lennon could be alive and living in Canada.

An amateur filmmaker, Tim, and his girlfriend Kathleen, discover a tape with a man strumming a guitar who may or may not be Lennon. The pair head off to a small town in Canada to try and find out.

Once they get there, they find some resistance from the locals in trying to get information. Then things get complicated when Kathleen develops a relationship with the mystery man, who goes by the name of Noel.

As strange and silly as it sounds, "Let Him Be," which plays as if it's a documentary through use of videotape as well as film, is harmless and manages to even be a little entertaining. Kathleen Munroe and Sean Clement play the two filmmakers. Mark Staycer plays the Lennon lookalike Noel Snow.

But maybe the strangest thing of all about "Let Him Be"? Yoko Ono never gets a mention.

Only 2 stars out of 5? I saw the film in Liverpool this past Summer and really enjoyed it. I didn't know it was Mark Staycer (a GREAAAT Lennon!) until the closing credits. The music alone makes it worthwhile. We are going to have the NY/New England premiere of the film at BEATexpo next month!

Charles: As I say, I didn't hate it, but the whole idea of bringing Lennon back in this way just didn't click with me. Maybe if the shooting angle hadn't been brought into the film, I'd feel differently about it.

Yoko never gets a mention? I'LL HAPPILY GO SEE THIS!

Maybe the filmmakers, like some of of us, are tired of the Professional Widow using Lennon and his murder to sell products?

    Reagan had Lennon killed.

This is a fantastic film. The sound track alone is priceless....so lennonesque....Sounds exactly what he'd write about the world today....
Mark Staycer is John Lennon....or .at least he must be channeling him!
