Harley-Davidson held their Winter Dealer Meeting this past weekend at the Gaylord Texan Resort in the Dallas suburb of Grapevine and participants came from around the world. Amongst the marketing, e-commerce, and roll out of Holiday 2012 merchandise, one item made its visual presence known: Metal flake.
The 2012 XL1200V Seventy-Two was at the show and that is one tempting ride sporting the limited series paint design, Laguna ($1,299.95), which is a deep cherry red with black and gold. The bike also sported the Solo Spring Saddle ($269.95) and the entire ensemble gave this ride a very polished yet old school vibe.
Another bike screaming for attention was the 2012 FXDB Street Bob with the Core Series Paint - Hard Candy Flake ($2,899.95) in green and black (Check out the slide show for photos).
Harley is definitely moving hard and fast toward embracing the younger riders by offering an array of bikes with customizable options from the affordable Sportster family and I was intrigued to see the movement towards the very bright colors as it brought up vibes of the early 1970's; a lot of the younger riders prefer the more old school look and HD has them squarely in their sights. While the older riders may not like this direction the Motor Company is taking, Milwaukee is doing a lot right after unloading Buell and MV Agusta and, as recent financials show, 2011 was a solid year with good growth company-wide. As the Motor Company is already preparing for their 110th Anniversary in 2013, signs indicate that the next two years will be fiinancially strong for the Company.
There were some unique gems on display at the Dealer Show from the Licensed Products and MotorClothes divisions so keep subscribed as those items will be content for future columns.
