We came, we danced, we conquered. We? Only the many faces (and thousands) who attended Governor's ball music festival, which consisted of a 3-day weekend of back to back performances of the elite in music. The music, of course, did not disappoint with epic highlight performances by The Strokes, Outcast or Jack White ; dynamic, heart pounding sets by the likes of Disclosure, Skrillex, The Bloody Beetroots, Axwell Λ Ingrosso and even performances that made attendees push and shove, just to get even a tiny glimpse, such as: Empire of the Sun and Foster the People.
Yes, Gov Ball is one of the biggest, most anticipated festivals on the East Coast or considered "New York's biggest party" and music-wise did not disappoint, however, when it came to smaller logistics of the fest, some things were quite disappointing, such as: the outrageous lines for water refill stations and restrooms, the pressure for attendees to "go-mobile" with a decision of no paper maps attendees could use to navigate the island. Or the failed attempt to enforce the Paypal app at select food vendors, however, was a completely frustrating experience for many waiting in line at one vendor for at least 30 minutes, only to get news that the app was experiencing "technical difficulties".
Maybe it was the long daily commute for many, the long lines, but nonetheless on the bright side, again, the amazing talents made up for the small cons of the fest - and thank the heavens no rain. Remember, last year? Yes, us too. In addition, we can't forget about the fun activities, such as: the silent disco - a DJ spinning and the only way you could tune into his/her set was with a pair of Sennheiser earphones, even old school lawn games, such as: bean bag toss and an oversized connect four, and amazing art installations. We must never forget what made the fest - or what makes any music festival on that point, the people.
