On Monday morning, Lady Gaga released a new song called "Do What U Want" with R. Kelly. There is a reason she appears nude on the promotional materials for this single; "Do What U Want" cannot survive on its own merits. It sounds like a song Christina Aguilera recorded while drunk. It's bad.
Lady Gaga does show some vocal strength on the track. But she over-sings it to the point where it hurts your ears. R. Kelly comes in on the second verse of the song and offers some short-relief. However, even he sounds uncomfortable on this record and it's pretty obvious.
"Do What U Want" was a last-minute addition to ARTPOP, an album that Interscope is doing everything possible to rescue. Perhaps they made Gaga record the song so she can appeal to the Black community. They have failed their marketing target in every single way possible.
The promotional campaign for ARTPOP has been absolutely desperate. Lady Gaga has done everything from running naked in a forest to asking her fans to buy several copies of "Applause" after it failed to chart past number 4. When "Do What U Want" flops, which is very likely, we predict she'll cry, tweet what a victim she is, and show pictures of her intestines since every other body part has been overexposed.
