David Stringer and Sheela Bringi played kirtan on March 14, 2014 through the auspices of Yoga on High. The Christian Spiritualist Temple was the venue and the kirtan concert reflected the great acoustics and high energy of David, Sheela and the participating audience. David knows how to get the audience intimately engaged in kirtan.

David Stringer has a great voice, musical skills that has him deserve his reputation as one of the best kirtan performers around. Sheela Bringi is equally gifted, and the inclusion of her harp and flute added a whole new dimension to the event. David offered several of his CDs at the modest price of $10, as did Sheela with her debut CD, Incantations.

The percussionist, Narada Wise, is from Canton, OH. As is often the case, David played with Narada for the first time and it went well. The tabla player, Radha Gopinath, is from Philadelphia. David, Sheela and Radha are heading to Ft. Wayne, IN for Saturday night kirtan and then on to Louisville for a Sunday night kirtan.

The concert was over 2 ½ hours of high energy call-and-response kirtan led by David and supported by Sheela and the audience. David added some helpful instructions on the more intricate Sanskrit chants, and also talked a little about how kirtan has progressed to focus on the music over the dogma associated with Eastern religions. It was all about the music, and the music was great.

Jasmine Grace, a co-owner of Yoga on High, is committed to bringing kirtan to a new level in Columbus. It is a great cause and it will add another dimension to the culture and spirit of Columbus. The next kirtan at Yoga on High is Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 8 to 10 p.m. Girish and his band will lead kirtan. Girish: Diamonds in the Sun was recommended and featured in the Feb. 2013 issue of Oprah’s magazine O. Tickets are $25 in advance at 614-291-4444614-291-4444 and $30 at the door. Yoga on High is located at 1081 N. High Street, Columbus, OH 43201.

David Stringer has provided renewed energy to Columbus for kirtan. You can be a part of making it happen. It is always about the music and all the people involved in kirtan generating spiritual energy.
