Staying overnight at the Hilton hotel of Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino is a nice getaway for New Mexicans looking to get away from home for a night or two. For Albuquerque residents, it is only a 1.5 hr drive from Albuquerque to Pojoaque, NM where Buffalo Thunder is situated, or only 20 minutes away from Santa Fe residents. You're able to get resort quality at a fraction of the price you'd be at any other resort in New Mexico or surrounding states. It has all the amenities of other resorts as well, including a golf course, spa, luxurious rooms and gorgeous pools and hot tubs. It also has the added benefit of having a casino attached as well as several restaurants on site to choose from. There's even an arcade for little kids and several gift shops.
This review is more about hotel and amenities than the casino itself. From the outside you can already see the pueblo architecture of the resort, giving it a beautiful local feel. As soon as you walk in, you are surrounded by gorgeous Native art, likely from the northern New Mexico pueblos. You can opt in for valet service or bell hop service if you wish, just remember to tip. The hotel rooms are clean and well decorated, also with the same Native American style you'll find all around the entire Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino. The resort features lots of statues, carvings, pottery and other art of buffalo, buffalo dancers and other pueblo art. There's even a balcony with two chairs and a table to enjoy the view from while relaxing.
One of the best amenities of the resort is their pool selections. They have an outdoor pool, an outdoor hot tub, an indoor pool, an indoor hot tub and a kids splash area outdoors. The outdoor pool is nice and cool for hot sunny days, but not chilling if you want to swim in it at night too. The lights come on at night which light up the pool in glowing colors like fuchsia, watermelon and lime. The hot tub outside is beautiful and not too hot. However, indoor one is hot. For those who want to easily walk in a pool without having to adjust temperatures, then the indoor pool is for you. It's like being in a warm bath. The splash area outside is cold but very fun. At night the whole pool area lights up with torches and there are large luminarias/farolitos decorating the outside of the hotel.
The spa is very nice and the massages are great. Opt in for the added essential oil for an extra treat. Spa guests can take advantage of their hot tub, which is even better than the hot tubs in the pool area. There is plenty of choices for restaurants in the resort. For those wanting to save money, head on over to the café inside the casino for delicious New Mexico food like breakfast burritos with red or green chile. On Thursdays, take your players card to the kiosk at the casino to print a buy-one-get-one-free buffet at the Painted Parrot. The buffet features Chinese, New Mexican, American and Italian food, as well as a dessert bar. Overall, Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino makes for a nice getaway with resort quality amenities.
