Review: Blick Art Materials on YouTube

Presently, the Internet is the main way that people gather information about a variety of topics and as technology advances it infuses more and more with everyday life. People can now work and go to school completely online and many things can be learned by engaging virtual reality. YouTube is a prime example of this noting the many tutorials on the website pertaining to numerous subjects. Perhaps unsurprisingly, artistic endeavors are among of the most popular tutorials on YouTube.

For people who wish to increase their artistic skills or for homeschooling parents who want to find ways to increase their children’s art curriculum, Blick Art Materials has a wonderful channel on YouTube called “BlickVideos.” The channel is dedicated to providing detailed tutorials focused on artistic techniques used via a myriad of mediums such as paint, clay and colored pencils.

The videos uploaded onto the BlickVideo channel are easy to understand and follow along with. The tutorials are perfect for people of all ages. Some videos focus on projects especially suited for children (such as making jellyfish out of recycled goods) and other projects are best done by older children and adults (such as painting with sharp blades). Most tutorials, like those about polymer clay, are great for any age.

The BlickVideo channel on YouTube is an excellent way to improve artistic skills. The techniques shown and advice given are extremely clear and well informed. The materials and styles vary widely and the potential for artistic muse is limitless. However, although the channel already includes many videos it can sometimes take months for new projects to be uploaded.

Overall, the quality of the BlickVideo tutorials is astounding and everyone who is interested in art should be encouraged to explore this creative online hotspot. However, the lengthy time periods in between video uploads is a source of grievance, hence I give BlickVideos 4/5 stars.
