“Revenge” returned Oct. 13 with the intense new episode, “Confession.” In it, Aiden (Barry Sloane) tells Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) he and Emily (Emily VanCamp) were sleeping together after she got engaged to Daniel (Josh Bowman). This revelation shifts the story 180 degrees while Emily continues to work her plan to get Conrad (Henry Czerny) to confess to his involvement in her father’s demise.
Plus, Nolan (Gabriel Mann) throws a housewarming bash and two unexpected couples, Jack (Nick Wechsler) and Margaux (Karine Vanasse) and Victoria and Aiden arrive and surprise Emily and Daniel. The biggest shocker comes when Aiden and Emily are finally revealed to be working together to bait Victoria into their trap.
Once again, Emily is circling around three men with completely different ties to her while she plunges ahead with her risky Revengenda. After watching her react to Jack and Margaux's flirtation and Aiden’s near fatal gunshot wound, the burning question remains: Who does Emily really love?
If at First You Don’t Confess, Try, Try Again
We’re surprised when Emily tells Father Paul she set him up and regrets her actions. However, she’s still willing to use him to her advantage by insisting he persuade Conrad to confess to his crimes, or she’ll turn him in for his link to the David Clarke scandal.
The scene is almost comic when Emily plays nurse maid and confidant to an ailing Conrad, who seems anxious to clear his conscience. Her whole speech about people paying for their sins by rotting in hell is great because Conrad is totally oblivious to the verbal daggers she's throwing.
The conversation seems to make an impact, because Conrad tells Father Paul he’s ready to turn himself in (much to raging Victoria’s dismay). Unfortunately, the car burns up when they’re en route to their biggest confession. Emily happens upon the wreckage and finds a dead Father Paul and then Conrad staggers toward her through the smoke.
So close but yet so far, Emily! Does this mean Conrad will retract his honest intentions? Emily may be forced to readjust her plans unless Conrad tries again to confess and finally succeeds. How likely is that?
Unexpected Guests Make a Splash
Nolan and Ems must rebound quickly after Aiden drops the bomb to Victoria that Emily bought Nolan’s house. Of course mother Grayson passes this info along to her son, along with the news that Emily cheated on him with Aiden after they were engaged.
Daniel defends Emily to Victoria but then later questions her about these new revelations. She admits to buying her friend his house, but totally denies an ongoing involvement with Aiden. She brands him obsessed and unable to accept the fact they’re over.
On the surface Daniel seems satisfied with her answers. But, he’s not happy Aiden is back in town and appears to remain slightly suspicious. Aiden and Emily have a heated public exchange at Nolan’s party, which a lot of people witness, including Victoria and Daniel.
Emily is thrown again when Margaux shows up on Jack’s arm. She finds him alone and tells him she’s taken what he said to heart. She intends to finish her revenge by summer’s end, starting with an August wedding to Daniel.
Jack seems ambivalent and Emily is obviously hurt and clearly jealous of his connection with Margaux. She gazes wistfully while they splash around together in the pool. Is Jack still the love of her life? If so, do they have any chance at a future together?
Finally, does anyone else think Margaux has some sort of hidden agenda? It seems awfully strange she just popped in out of nowhere and decided to launch her magazine smack in the middle of Graysonland. She’s already tried to seduce Daniel. We’ll have to see if she has any other dirty tricks up her sleeve.
Does Love Linger Between Aiden and Emily?
We were already guessing and hoping Aiden’s conspiracy with Victoria was some sort of elaborate ruse to help Emily. After having such an intense relationship, is it possible for their love to die so quickly?
Emily is obviously upset when she finds out Daniel shot Aiden. She reaches out to touch his wound and Aiden pushes her away. He obviously still cares about her. He did come back, after all, to help her play out her scheme. Does love still linger between them? After all is said and done, will Emily realize Aiden is her “end game” and the one who truly holds the biggest piece of her heart?
What do you think? Who does Emily’s heart belong to? Who do you hope she ends up with? Sound off in the comments below.
