Film Districts’ ‘Dead Man Down’ is an action thriller starring Colin Farrell as Victor a man who is set on avenging the death of his family. The object of his hate is the kingpin, Alphonse (Terrence Howard). Along the way, Victor’s retribution becomes sidetracked by his neighbor, Beatrice (Noomi Rapace). It appears she has a revenge plan of her own. Ultimately, their mutual feelings of hate blossom into love.
This is Danish filmmaker Niels Arden Opelv, first film on American soil. This venture also reunites him with Noomi Rapace whom he directed in the original version of ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.’ Rapace who has starred in ‘Prometheus ‘and ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’ Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’ reveals that she is able to play a multi-dimensional character. This is evident as Beatrice’s vulnerability cloaks her obsession. Combined with the compelling chemistry between Farrell and Rapace, it appears that Niels has a hit his first time out in the good old USA.
The film is an action charged adventure as Victor raises the stakes in his pursuit to settle the score with the ruthless Alphonse. Academy Award® nominee Terrance Howard (‘Hustle & Flow’) skillfully plays the ruthless kingpin while subtlety wielding terror in the lives of those who cross him.
‘Dead Man Down’ is entertaining as it is violent. It is a dish served with reckoning. It catapults the audience through the thrilling world of vengeful obsession with a side of retribution. Leaving you with the feeling that justice has been served.
