Return the drive-in madness with Chillerama

With the resurgence of the grindhouse style filmmaking every filmmaker out there is trying new and unique ways to bring horror films to the fans. The latest creative attempt comes from filmmakers Adam Green (Hatchet), Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2), Adam Rifkin (Detroit Rock City), and Tim Sullivan (2001 Maniacs) who decided to take us back to the drive-in.

Chillerama is an anthology horror film consisting of four films wrapped into a storyline of a drive inn’s final night before closing its doors for the last time. To go out with a bang they decide to show 4 films that have never been shown to the public before called Wadzilla, I Was A Teenage Werebear, The Diary of Anne Frankenstein, and Zom-B-Movie. Most of the time when filmmakers get together to create something new like this it somehow falls apart, but not this time. This movie works on every level and it’s clearly due to the both the talent in front of and behind the camera. This movie is ridiculous on every level and is meant to be. These films create some spoof homages to almost every genre from giant monsters, beach party musicals, and zombie films among others. All the cast deliver great performances, some clearly cheesy and bad on purpose. One of the most creative film, Diary of Anne Frankenstein uses all German actors, with the exception of the guy that plays Hitler who is not speaking anything but gibberish and makes it that much more entertaining.

This is an awesome spoof film without actually being just a straight up spoof, but instead a homage to all those really bad films that used to pop up at the drive-in theaters. There are some aspects of this film that are pretty out there and could easily offend, so be warned it will most likely take a special kind of person to really have fun with this movie, but if you are one of them, you are in for a treat.
