The march of time sees genres come and go, and even though Capcom – the very studio that popularized the survival horror genre – has largely moved its flagship undead-fighting franchise on to greener, more actiony pastures, every now and then it reminds us that it can still reproduce the old magic. Resident Evil: Revelations was just such a breath of fresh air when it released on 3DS last year, and like with all other Nintendo-exclusive entries in the series (read: RE4) it was only a matter of time before success equated to multiplatform porting. Revelations HD takes the compromise between old and new schools of gameplay and supernatural crime drama format of its namesake and beefs up the presentation to give home consoles a little workout. Short of that, there’s not really much to be said since it’s all but the exact same title as it was a year ago; There’s still no reason for you to not give it a spin if you’re hungry for something much closer to traditional survival horror than the recent monster-flavored shootfests that have masqueraded under the title.
