Red Robin Gourmet Burgers restaurant, San Dimas, California

I decided to check out the Red Robin Gourmet Burgers® restaurant in San Dimas, California for a restaurant review on Dorothy had heard from friends about Red Robin’s hamburgers. While their menu today is far more extensive than just hamburgers, the heart of their business is based in their heritage of hamburgers.

At the heart of every Red Robin Gourmet Burgers casual dining, family restaurant is their selection of hamburgers, especially the 6 oz. Gourmet Burger in various configurations.

Iced Tea, $2.79, and Onion Ring-Shorty, $5.00

We were greeted immediately and seated quickly as we chose to come after their busy dinner hour. Our server, Lindsay, showed up and took our order for an appetizer and my fresh brewed iced tea. We started with the Onion Ring Shorty.

I’m glad that we got the shorty instead of the 13 rings tall Towering Onion Rings® as it was just the right amount of onion rings. They were nice big slices of onions, lightly breaded and crisp. These onion rings were delicious. Red Robin served them with Campfire Sauce and ranch dressing. The Campfire Sauce was our favorite. It reminded me of Thousand Island with a slight kick, just the right amount of mild fire.

All-American Patty Melt, $8.99

Fortunately for this review, Dorothy decided to order the Patty Melt with an upgrade to sweet potato fries instead of the normal French fries. The patty melt came with sautéed onions and Thousand Island on marbled rye and your choice of cheese. Dorothy chose Swiss. She felt the Red Robin Patty Melt was good though we agreed it wasn’t as exceptional as the Bacon Cheese Burger.

Bacon Cheese Burger, $9.99

This gourmet burger came with a couple slices of thick sliced bacon plus mayo, tomatoes and your choice of cheese. I ordered mine without any cheese. One of my favorite features of Red Robin’s Gourmet Burgers is that I was able to order it cooked medium instead of the normal dried out medium well to well-done burgers at fast food restaurants. Thanks to arriving medium (pink center), this hamburger was still juicy and really tasty.

Sweet Potato Fries upgrade, $.149

Like Dorothy, I ordered the sweet potato fries upgrade. We both enjoyed them and found them lighter than French fries. I got extra Campfire Sauce for dipping them.

We passed on the dessert though I saw some tempting selections.

This is a comfortable, casual dining restaurant. Although it has a bar, I still consider it a family restaurant because they cater to children with crayons to occupy them while waiting on their food.

Because this is one of Dorothy’s and my two favorite restaurants for hamburgers and more, I’m giving it a 5 star rating. (We just went back for another dinner. Dorothy got the Arctic Cod Fish & Chips, which we both loved.)
