As consistent as the seasons, Red Light Variety Show returned this spring for another run of whimsical and sexy dance, laughter, and burlesque at the Visual Arts Collective. Friday night marked the second to last night of the seasonal run. If you missed tonight you are out of luck as Saturday May 3 is sold out.
The spring theme was Game Room, with a play on everything from Candyland, Baseball and Pacman, to Game of Thrones and Tron. Mixed in between were amazing dance routines both delightful and titillating. The entire cast and crew did a wonderful job entertaining the crowd and keeping the feel good atmosphere alive and thriving.
While the entire cast performed incredibly, the night’s standout performances came from the talented and lovely Aayla di Bois, Kelly Green, Frankly Frankie and Katie Ponozzo. The charismatic James Sharp did a superb and confident job as well.
Some of the show’s key moments came courtesy of Ponozzo and her black ribbon dance in Love is a Losing Game, du Bois’ sensual swing routine in A Pretty Package, and Frankie’s twisted acrobatics on Wicked Game.
The Red Light crew even tossed in humorous little film vignettes filmed at local Boise haunts like The Crux, Spacebar and Fast Lane Go Karts.
If there was one minor flaw to the night’s performance it was the pre-show sound which was so loud it was distorted and distracting.
In all, it was a wondrously entertaining and exciting evening that was not to be missed. The crew will be back this summer so mark your calendars now, and add them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/redlightvarietyshow.
