After Fifty Shades of Grey came on the scene a couple of years ago, it seems like publishers and writers everywhere decided to jump on the bandwagon. Some of these are carbon copies, whereas others have the same plot but still the books stand on their own. An example of both of these of course is the Crossfire series.
With Real by Katy Evans what you have is a very long foreplay of epic arousal proportions before the two characters finally come together. This is not a simple tale of girl meets boy. No it is a no holds bar, in your face erotic tale of love and longing that will have you the reader panting as hard as the main character after a man who almost seems real. Though you know he's not.
A fallen boxer.
A woman with a broken dream.
He even makes me forget my name. One night was all it took, and I forgot everything and anything except the sexy fighter in the ring who sets my mind ablaze and my body on fire with wanting…
Remington Tate is the strongest, most confusing man I’ve ever met in my life.
He’s the star of the dangerous underground fighting circuit, and I’m drawn to him as I’ve never been drawn to anything in my life. I forget who I am, what I want, with just one look from him. When he’s near, I need to remind myself that I am strong–but he is stronger. And now it’s my job to keep his body working like a perfect machine, his taut muscles primed and ready to break the bones of his next opponents . . .
But the one he’s most threatening to, now, is me.
I want him. I want him without fear. Without reservations.
If only I knew for sure what it is that he wants from me?
It has been a long time since I've read a book that was so descriptive that before you know it, the writer actually puts you in the place of her main character. The book is told in first person point of view, and before you know it, you are panting, fanning yourself as if you are literally in Brooke's place.
The writer makes you feel as if you are the one being aroused by this man, one Remington 'Riptide' Tate, the one man in all creation that wants you more than anything else in this world. Even though he is a complex man with his own issues, a woman still loves it when a man goes all alpha male on her. Well for the most part a lot of women like that.
What I liked about the characters in this book is that they were written as if they were living, breathing entities and for 99% of the book I never felt as if I was a reader enjoying fiction, but instead I was dropped into Brooke's and Remy's world. The 1% of course made me shake my head in disgust, but honestly it is just one part that was sort of obvious. It was the kind of situation where I was ready to slap Brooke across the face for being so stupid. But it all worked out. But still…
I have to give kudos to the writer. She has written a novel that tingles the senses, especially those of you who love a long, slow arousal to the point of where you can feel your skin crawl with the intense longing and participation of what is to come. This book is not for the faint-hearted or those who like quickies over the long foreplay.
This is a highly recommended book for those who love to read about tortured alpha males who will do anything for their woman, even go all cave man on her. Read this book if you are having Fifty Shades of amnesia. Read this book if you think that the brain is another sexual organ, because my dear readers, Ms. Evans gives real good brain stimulation. Read this book if you just love a darn good love story because that is what this book is essentially is, a pulse pounding, panty dropping love story, that will make you stand up and cheer by the end of the book.
And you should also know that there will be a total of five books in this series, with book 2 and book 3 coming out in November.
