Last year, my company installed a security system. It is a good system used by most of the big players. The problem was that it wouldn't allow remote desktop to work. This is a big problem. Without remote desktop adimistering the security system would be a impossible. The application even blocked VNC. There is another alternative that solved this problem. There are many web based RDP solutions. One of which is offered by Google and it is completely free. You will have to have an account on Google(and Chrome) to use this. Once you do, all you really need to do is click on the "Products" menu. Click on "Chrome Web Store" and search for Chrome Remote Desktop. Install on both sides. After logging in to Chrome Remote Desktop, you will be greeted by the familiar log on screen you normally see on a windows box. Please keep in mind that this is only on the application level. There can be no low level modifications to this server. With these limitations in mind it does allow for a low cost solution to administration for boxes that may not be in your subnet. There may be a question of security so please contact your IT department before installing any solution that violate your corporate security rules.
