Railroad Earth played the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee last Friday night, and the New Jersey progressive bluegrass band soared through two magnificent sets of their inspired brand of newgrass music. Bringing with them a spectacular light show, the entire event was a spectacle to behold, and the near sell out crowd showed their appreciation throughout the night by singing, dancing, and clapping along to the songs they've grown to love over the band's momentous 11 year career.
The last official CD for Railroad Earth was the self titled disc released in late 2010, their first effort for One Haven Music. The setlist in Milwaukee touched upon that disc's better moments, specifically "The Jupiter And The 119" in the second set, and spanned their entire career including the now legendary genesis of Railroad Earth, "The Black Bear Sessions", from which they played "Seven Story Mountain", "Cold Water" and "Chains."
Other highlights included a well crafted and striking delivery of "Any Road" during the first set, a sparkling rendition of "Long Way To Go" in the second set, and a heartfelt and touching version of The Sensational Nightingales tune "My Sisters And Brothers" as the closing encore that paid homage to the late Jerry Garcia who made the song a staple in the Jerry Garcia Band repertoire.
Railroad Earth continues their winter tour until March 16th which wraps up with a free show in Aspen, CO. For Spring and Summer Tour dates you can check out their website at http://railroadearth.com/tourdates/
