Railroad Earth derails the Granada with two steamy sets + Previews!

The Granada was packed to the gills with hippies of all ages last night for Railroad Earth's climactic show. The big venue nearly burst with the audience that filled every nook and cranny with music lovers dancing and cheering.

8:15 is awfully early for a big band's concert to start at a venue like The Granada, but supposedly that is when opener Dumptruck Butterlips began their show. Railroad Earth was already in full swing by 9:30, with a hefty crowd filling the venue, but a lot of fans were shocked by how early the concert started and ended.

Railroad Earth's reputation as a rocking mixture of folk bluegrass and progressive jam rock was reinforced by the two sets that explored the most dance-able bluegrass jigs as well as psychedellic, trance-inducing solos. Railroad Earth utilizes so many instruments, going beyond the regular bluegrass fallbacks of guitar, mandolin, violin, standup bass and banjo, to include such oddities as saxophone and flute in certain songs as well as drums in all their songs.

A full dance floor was just the front line of an entirely jammed venue. From the front of the stage all the way back to the bar and up to the balcony. Party people from all walks of life were gathered for the highly anticipated concert, old-school bluegrass fans, families and young fans alike. The huge crowd was full of positive vibes and roared with approval through each set.

Even if the show ended before 1 a.m. the crowd was quite satisfied by the time the band said their last goodbyes. With any luck the great Railroad Earth will roll through town again soon.
