I finally had a chance to check out the brand new R10 Social House.

Located in Redondo Marina, the restaurant was named for the R10 buoy off King Harbor.

I stopped by twice the last couple of weeks – once, at lunch time, and one rainy afternoon about 4 p.m. – and it was closed both times. For now, the hours are 5 to 11.

The New Year made for a long week, so we opted for a quick happy hour on Friday night. My friends Sandra and JT were there last weekend and had good things to say, so I was looking forward to it.

It’s a terrific location with plenty of parking and a view of the harbor and boat hoist.

I really like what they did with the space. The décor is vintage industrial complete with Chesterfield sofas, retro light fixtures and reclaimed wood paneling. The two stories compromise almost 7,000 square feet.

Downstairs is more intimate with a smaller bar, booths and tables. The upper level features a large dance floor, lounge area, dining tables and a classic, grand bar.

The menu is tiny but I imagine they’ll add to it as they get up and running – and rumor has it, there’s a Michelin Star chef in the kitchen.

We ordered three items off the Social menu – small plates meant to be shared. The prices are a little higher than you might expect for appetizers but the portions are larger. The dishes were original and tasty: fried olives stuffed with ricotta with a side of black garlic aioli; a cheese board with warm fruit compote and house bread; and a salad with buttermilk-green harissa dressing that gave it a nice kick. Our server was friendly and attentive.

I had an opportunity to speak with George, one of the partners, and he said, by the spring/summer, they’ll have live music. Did I mention, they have a good size dance floor on the second level? Hmmmm….this place could be the new Beach Bum Burt’s!

R10 Social House doesn’t officially open for another three weeks but in the meantime, check out the pics!
