Years ago, my husband and I took a VIP tour throughout the Amish Experience located near Intercourse, Pa where we visited a dairy farm, a cottage business of broom makers and one of the many Amish families. They opened their home to us tourist for a friendly visit as part of the tour. We shared our everyday lives, our differences and similarities. Their daughter sold homemade pretzels with friends and other family members. During our visit, we were able to buy the dry mix and the directions for these wonderful pretzels.
Luckily, we found her now expanded roadside stand on Stumpton Road in Ronks, Pa. From simply delicious, soft pretzels to a store that carries many handmade items that make great gifts for many. My attempt at pretzel making flopped, so now we make our yearly trip to the Countryside Road-Stand.
As you pull up to the store, your first stop should be for pretzels. They are warm and melt in your mouth, unlike the soft pretzels in the concessions stand. Usually on the outside, sample cups of homemade root beer for 25 cents compliment the pretzel. This is my husband's favorite part.
Inside one will find hand made quilts, Quillows, crafted goods, baskets, rugs, canned fruits/vegetables, bird houses, painted gourds, and we can't forget the baked goods, and dairy goods like fresh butter and cheese. You ask, what are Quillows? Quillows are lap quilts that fold up into a pillow! A unique idea! A shopping experience where most items are made in the USA, many locally. Before you leave, visit with the farm animals behind the store.
They are open 8:00am-6:00pm, everyday except Sunday. Buses are welcome. Once, you visit, you will add this place to your must do list when you return.
