I happened upon Ques Espresso in Longmont, Colorado more or less by chance. On the way to drop my daughter off at school one day, my husband, my daughter and I stopped in to grab a coffee (for my husband and I), a hot cocoa (for my daughter) and some Danishes.
What immediately struck me about the place was the warm, albeit somewhat 'sterile' ambiance. Perhaps logistically speaking, the terms 'warm' and 'sterile' don't particularly fit together, but in this case, Ques makes it work. The décor of the establishment is very art deco meets modern European, with art and photography from local artisans hanging on the walls.
Near the front door is a couch with a two way gas burning fireplace and café tables line the walls all the way past the espresso bar into the back of the café. There are plenty of places to spread out, plug in your laptop, and study or surf the web, and of course, there's free WiFi.
Another thing that I was immensely impressed by is the accommodating manner of the staff. The staff there is friendly, efficient, and attentive. In addition, the espresso menu includes a vast variety of coffees, espressos, teas, and non-coffee beverages all made-to-order. I was particularly impressed by the fact that Ques offers not one, but four different non-dairy milk alternatives for those espresso drinks that require milk.
Yes, it is the simple things in life that tend to be the most pleasing, and Ques gets that; from the simplicity of the interior to the fact that they serve up a darn good cup of coffee. It is also pertinent to note that Ques offers a variety of vegan and vegetarian lunch items from sandwiches to burritos on their menu.
I've since been back to Ques several times and witnessed a steady flow of return visitors throughout the morning. And it should come as no surprise to me, as they've certainly got my number. This is truly a place you can go to where everybody knows your name.
