A scary setting alongside sweet confections is a rare combination set for a donut shop. However, placing Psycho Donuts within the confines of Comedy Sportz would explain the humor behind it all. Looking at the oddly shaped donuts, creepy designs, and impressively unique flavors is more than eye-catching … it’s mouth-dropping! And, as I admit to having smirked at some of the more creative donuts available (i.e. the hamburger donut and fries), I can understand why this comical combination is suiting for the comedy show’s theme.
Although there are plenty of donut shops that have gone beyond the standard round and hole for a sweet treat, what Psycho Donuts does with their own concoctions is ABOVE and beyond. If the Oreo cookie crumbles were not enough to catch someone’s attention, then I am certain the passion fruit jelly donut is enough to grab most people. What’s continually tempting about Psycho Donuts is that there is almost always something new to try.
I must warn you to eat with caution, and this is not because of the calories that obviously come with these interesting sweets (you all know what you’re in for), but it could be a hazard to eat and laugh at the Comedy Sportz show simultaneously. I managed to leave without choking, and I must admit that the risk was well worth the laughter and sugar combo.
Admittedly, I am slightly picky about my own donuts, which may translate that I am not the biggest donut fan. I know that I would have enjoyed my intermission donut more if it had been fresh from the oven. However, I am taking into consideration my own timing – 11:00pm – and recognize that it is almost impossible to get one of these crazy creations at any other donut shop, so I am sure most other people wouldn’t complain about this. The donut was not stale at all, but I do wish I could have heated it for that extra fresh softness and warmth. Keep in mind that this is just my snobby particularness coming through.
Having explained my own taste, I nonetheless have to admit how impressed I was with the presentation and variety of donuts. Where else are you going to find a triangular or heart-shaped donut? Or how about a donut that looks like a hamburger with a side of fried donut strips in the shape of French fries?
The texture is light and airy, while the glazes are sweet and not too sugary. It also helps that some of these donuts are as cheap as $1. Keep in mind that the donuts vary in shape, size, color, and price. With so much variety, I wonder if they should even be called donuts anymore.
