Meditation is a technique that has been around for thousands of years, it can help to clear your mind, reduce stress or even will your mind or body to do something more. In today’s society we live in a world of stimuli, everything is meant to stimulate your mind to be active or even multitask. Meditation is something that is likely needed now more than ever, but it’s not the easiest thing to do with so many distractions in our lives. The PSiO will work to block out those distractions and help you perform an ancient technique with new age technology.
The PSiO is a pair of glasses with headphones attached that offers both visual and audio stimulation to help induce a meditative state. Each program consist of various music or beats, usually mixed with binaural tones, which are linked with colorful patters that appear on the glasses you are wearing. It offers many programs that are designed to help with a multitude of issues. From basic relaxation to near hypnotic programs designed to help better yourself mentally or even physically.
The light show you watch while the music and beats start their work is usually entertaining and used to keep your eyes locked the light show rather than wander to something else. Once the program has started fully it helps to block out all outside distractions, helping you to move into a meditative state easier. Many of the programs are 20-40 minutes long, and after a few minutes or even toward the latter part of the program you’ll find the patters to be repetitive and your eyelids begin closing. This is perfectly normal and while your eyes are closed you can still see some flashes which still works with the music and binaural tones to keep your meditative state.
If you are unfamiliar with the idea of binaural tones, here’s a quick explanation. Your brain gives off certain frequencies during different states of activity. So your mind will be running at a different frequency when you are really focused versus being relaxed. The idea is that by playing these binaural tones at those frequencies it will help or even force your brain into those states. Also Music has been a tool to help get people in a certain mood, and to be honest is much or entertaining that simple tones to listen to. This is what makes up much of how the PSiO works and how it can help just about everyone out there.
There are programs for those with high photosensitivity or even epileptics that are prone to seizures because of photosensitivity. It’s recommended that you keep your eyes closed if you find you are sensitive to the light or have any known conditions that could be affected by it. The light will penetrate to your eyes but will be much softer and easier for you to relax. If you are photosensitive and don’t know it, you could feel a bit nauseous and light headed after your first use. For some this feeling won’t return after a few uses, but if it does keeping your eyes closed will still let you gain benefit from the PSiO.
I tested this device out with the help of a few coworkers and family members to see more of range of how this might work. Each person testing the PSiO tried the relaxation program first and it did the job on its first try, though a couple of people found themselves nauseous or light headed toward the end. The feeling passed within a few minutes however the relaxation stayed. After a few weeks of use with various programs such as memory enhancements or helping you to focus, many of them felt things were improving but hadn't seen a ‘life altering change’. The PSiO will work cumulatively, more you use it the stronger the affect, and while you shouldn't expect to have an eidetic memory after a long while of using the memory program, you should find things easier to remember in general.
Some of the programs, such as for sleep, seem to be counterproductive to some. One of the sleep programs tested was loud and stimulating, and while this might work for some as it puts them into a meditative, near hypnotic state, for others they’ll find their mind racing and sleep escaping them further.
One person found that the PSiO just didn't do much for them except the relaxation part of it. This person used the relaxation, stress, and memory programs, and unfortunately they found their day to day stress levels hadn't reduced or were more easily managed, and memory seemed to have no change. The affect can take longer on some than others but just like regular mediation or hypnosis, some people are less susceptible.
The price tag of the PSiO make it an investment rather than a device you can pick up to just see if it works on you. You have 30 days from date of purchase to return it if you aren’t satisfied with it, this should be enough time to know if this product is for you. The PSiO comes with 10 pre-loaded programs, however there is addition cost for more programs. You do get two free downloads once you've registered the unit which provides you with a download for under eight dollars and one for over eight dollars. Cost of programs start at $2 but the majority are upward of $15-$20.
Overall the PSiO offers many programs for self-help and relaxation, and can assist with clearing your mind and forcing you to just relax for a half hour while it does its job. This is not for everyone, while many, if not most people can might benefit from this, you do have to use it and some will have to put in a lot more time than others. The price tag will need to factor into the purchase as well but it’s likely if you’re looking to buy the PSiO then you are familiar with mediation or audio visual therapy, so you understand that it’s an investment to a better you.
